اكدت تقارير صحفية ان واشنطن تحاول تعزيز قواتها المسلحة بعدد من الناطقين باللغة العربية وذلك مع تزايد مهمات جيوشها في المنطقة وخاصة العراق.
وتشير التقارير الى ان الجيش الأمريكي ينشط بصورة كبيرة حالياً في مدينة ديرويت ومحيطها حيث يقطن اكثر من 300 الف عربي لتجنيد اكبر عدد منهم في صفوف وحداته.
وتوضح التقارير ان مواقف السكان تتباين حول ذلك اذ يرحب البعض بالتطوع في الجيش للتغلب على المصاعب الاقتصادية بينما يرفض اخرون بصورة قاطعة قائلين ان ارتداء زي الجيش الأمريكي سيجعلهم محل انتقاد واسع من قبل المحيطين بهم وسيتهمون مباشرة بأنهم خونة يقتلون ابناء جلدتهم في العراق.
وتشير التقارير الى ان القوات المسلحة الأمريكية تقوم بتوزيع آلاف المنشورات الدعائية والملصقات في شوارع دترويت وعموم ولاية ميتشغن في مسعى منها لجذب السكان المنحدرين من اصول عربية الى صفوفها.

The New York Times found 121 cases in which veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan committed a killing in this country, or were charged with one, after their return from war. In many of those cases, combat trauma and the stress of deployment — along with alcohol abuse, family discord and other attendant problems — appear to have set the stage for a tragedy that was part destruction, part self-destruction.
Three-quarters of these veterans were still in the military at the time of the killing. More than half the killings involved guns, and the rest were stabbings, beatings, strangulations and bathtub drownings. Twenty-five offenders faced murder, manslaughter or homicide charges for fatal car crashes resulting from drunken, reckless or suicidal driving.
