Iraqi Christians under threat in Baghdad

Yusuf Al-Jezani » 04 May 2007 » In Human Rights, Iraq, Religion, War Crimes » No Comments

Follow up to Saba Ali’s posting “Baghdad Christians flee as violence against them mounts” made yesterday:

Iraqi Christians are fleeing their areas particularly in the restive quarters of Baghdad despite the ongoing U.S. and Iraqi military operations to bring stability to the city.

In the violent district of Doura, for example, all the remaining Christians have received written warnings signed by armed groups either to leave or covert to Islam.

Doura was a major Christian center with several monasteries, churches and a major Chaldean Catholic seminary. They are all empty now with monks, priests and congregations fearing to attend them.

A Christian member of parliament, Abdulahad Mansour, said to stay the Christians are forced to pay a tax of 250,000 dinars for each member of the family, an exorbitant sum which only few can afford in Iraq.

“I urge the government to put an end to these threats and practices and find a solution to the suffering of Christians in Iraq,” said Mansour.

Another MP, Romeo Hakari, said large numbers of Christians have fled to the Kurdish north or left the country for Syria or Jordan.

“Iraqi Christians have been subjected, following the collapse of the former regime, and especially in Baghdad, to a real crisis for the first time in their history. Many of them have been killed, many of them have been kidnapped; their churches have been destroyed; and thousands made homeless,” Hakari said.

Scenes From An Iraki Childhood May 4 2007 — Cause And Effect

Yusuf Al-Jezani » 04 May 2007 » In Children, Iraq, Photos, Women and Children » No Comments

Thebombing attacks last night in Kirkuk killed 6 civilians and wounded 33 others. Among the wounded were this baby seen in the photograph being treated in Kirikuk hospital.

baby wounded kirkuk bomb attack being treated and the reason whyThe first bomb was in the al-Baath neighbourhood in central Kirkuk. That bombing killed 4 and wounded 33 others. Ten minutes later a second bomb exploded in Dumez — that bomb killed a civil servant in the communications division of the regional government and another civilian.

There have been two further bombings in Kirkuk already today. The first of these killed two green zone government “police” — in reality these “police” are peshmerga and heavily implicated in “ethnic cleansing”. The second happily did not cause any deaths or injuries.

How can it be that this is happening in the so-called “peaceful” north?

When the Americans attacked Irak a large part of their plan for raping the country of its assets and having permanent bases on Iraki soil to dominate the region depended upon splitting the country into small weak feuding statelets.

To do this they have fostered sectarianism and ethnic hatreds. They have especially done this in Kirkuk a city which has always been mixed. I am a product of such a mix, my mother is Kurdish my father Arabic. These days that would make me and my family a target for the American backed peshmerga “government” and its peshmerga “police”.

You are looking at cause and effect in this picture. You are looking at the cynically ruthless and grasping face of America. What a pity for America that their plan is not working as they wished. What a pity for this child that America and her minions are still in Irak.

Irak - all Irak, is for the Irakis and the Irakis alone. There is no place for the American predator or the American predator’s underlings in Irak.
