The number of bodies found outside the capital has increased markedly in the last 3 weeks.

In a remarkable case of the pot calling the kettle black the SIIC (SCIRI) dominated green zone government Interior Ministry whose death American trained and funded death squads cause terror amongst the Sunni populace. IOM Report:  ”Across Irak, an average of 60,000 people are being displaced each month”

The IOM has released its ½ year report on Irak:

“Iraq - Only a fraction of the most vulnerable of the 2.2 million internally displaced people (IDPs) in Iraq are getting the basic humanitarian assistance they need partly because of insufficient resources, says IOM upon releasing a mid-year review on displacement in the middle eastern country.

“It is difficult to understand or to explain why, when there is a clear awareness across the globe of a major crisis in Iraq, that there is so little response to requests for funds to help people in need of the most basic humanitarian assistance. Yes, insecurity is hampering access to people, but there are, nevertheless, organizations and their staff working on the ground despite enormous risks, to assist vulnerable people. They could reach so many more people with more resources,” says Rafiq Tschannen, IOM’s Chief of Mission for Iraq.

Iraq now has about 2.2 million internally displaced people (IDPs) with another 2 million having fled to neighbouring countries to seek refuge. Since IOM began monitoring displaced people in Iraq’s 15 central and southern governorates at the end of February 2006 when the bombing of the Al-Askari mosque in Samarra sparked a new displacement crisis, the numbers of people forced to flee their homes in fear of their lives have grown relentlessly. Across Iraq, an average of 60,000 people are being displaced each month in 2007.

Although Baghdad continues to be the origin of most of the displacement since February 2006, this year has also seen a significant increase in the number of displaced people arriving in Iraq’s three northern governorates.”

Reports From Baghdad

This morning’s round of mortar and katyusha attacks on the green zone consisted of a barrage of only 4. One of which hit a government building. Almelaf quote a green zone government security official as saying that:

“The source of the launch was very close this time.”

As part of the American plan to divide Irak on sectarian lines the green zone government is introducing the use of ID cards in the areas of Baghdad that the American invaders have walled off and “pacified”. The system will be the same as that used in Fallujah and other cities that the Americans have tried to subjugate by the wholesale commission of murder of civilians.

A car bomb has exploded in front of the Iranian embassy in Karradat Maryam no reports of casualties. Update: The explosion killed 4 people and wounded 5. Also a number of cars were destroyed. No damage to the embassy or casualties to embassy staff because of the distance between the building and the perimeter.

The green zone government Central Bank has denied reports that large amounts of forged currency are in circulation claiming that the reports are an attempt to destabilise it.

Adnan Al Dulaimi’s home and offices in North West Baghdad were raided for the tenth time in succession by a mix of Americans and green zone government government forces. Who left without having found what they were looking for — for the tenth time in succession.

Four gunmen who attempted and failed to assassinate the Director of Communications at the SIIC (SCIRI) dominated green zone government Ministry of Interior were detained.

Ten people were killed and eleven others were wounded by a suicide attack in Zayounah (Zioneh) five of the dead were green zone government soldiers whose patrol was the target of the attack. 

Update: The toll from this bombing is now 20 dead and 20 wounded.

Another bombing in the same area this time targeting the pick up point for minibuses killed one person and wounded two others.

24 bodies were recovered today in Baghdad. 16 in al-Karkh and 8 in al Rusafa.

Reports From The Governorates

Al Anbar Governorate

4 green zone government police were killed and 3 wounded in an attack on a green zone government checkpoint 60Km south of Fallujah.

Soldiers from the American army still trying to subjugate Irak and their green zone government underlings have launched yet another offensive in Al Anbar. The operation began on Sunday.

At-Ta’mim (Kirkuk) Governorate

Green zone government police announced the arrest of more than 50 suspects in Mosul and Kirkuk to nobody’s surprise they say that every single one of them is a member of Al Qaeda.

Babil Governorate

The Iraki Red Crescent has expanded its operations in Babil to include delivery of basic survival food and needs to 2000 refugee households in Hilla. Many of the households are headed by orphans, nearly all have lost family members as well as being driven from their homes. The Red Crescent is delivering to these families, mattresses, food, water, water containers, and cooking equipment.

Two civilians were wounded in a hand grenade attack in central Hillah.

The American army still trying to subjugate Irak has apologised for their unlawful detention of the senior municipal administrator belonging to the Dawa party headed by green zone government “prime minister” Nouri Al Maliki. Other Dawa figures involved in running the governorate have resigned in protest at the detention of Haitham Husseini administrator of Jabla by a “snatch squad” of Americans sent from  Baghdad.

Basra Governorate

A British convoy was attacked as it approached the JCC. The British base in the airport came under rocket attack. Flights to Basrah International Airport have been halted until the damage caused to the runway by rockets has been repaired.

Dahuk Governorate

Turklsh authorities have handed over to KRG authorities more than 100 people who were arrested in raids across Turkey. They had crossed into Turkey illegally and were from various parts of Irak.During the past six months, the Turkish authorities have deported about 400 people who tried to move to Turkey illegally.

Dhi Qar Governorate

A Dawa party official’s home was bombed last night in Nasiriyah. In a separate incident an attempt to bomb Sadrist offices was detected and the device defused.

Diyala Governorate

29 civilians have been massacred in a hamlet in north east of Baqubah. Dwilijah is a agricultural hamlet. According to reports men wearing green zone government army uniforms stormed the settlement close to Muqdadiyah and killed 29 people including 4 women. The massacre lasted about an hour according to green zone government military police spokesman Colonel. al-Omairi. The area has recently been pacified by tribal levies fighting under American command these levies are from Sunni tribes. (The account on Sadrist site here is a good example of how this is being reported and the causal link between such massacres and the American tactic of using tribal levies.) 

Karbala Governorate

Sheikh Abdel-Hassan Alfrati announced that a network of Pakistani forgers who were providing forged visas to Pakistani visitors entering the holy city of Karbala had been detected. The report also says that a court case has been opened in Pakistan against some of the forgers by Pakistani pilgrims angered that they had been duped and put at risk by the forgeries.

Maysan Governorate

One green zone government police officer was killed and another wounded in a shoot out in central Amarah with a criminal gang specialising in kidnapping, extortion, and murder in central Amarah. Some gang members were killed and the remainder taken into custody.

Muthanna Governorate

14 death sentences and 2 life sentences have been passed by the green zone government courts in Muthanna. 10 of the death sentences were imposed against people accused of “terrorist offenses” and four for “murder and theft” also two traders in drugs and weapons were sentenced to prison.

Ninawa Governorate

One green zone government soldier was killed and 12 people injured in a suicide car bomber attack in Mosul. The attack took place around 19:30 hours and the target was a green zone government regimental headquarters. 4 green zone government soldiers were wounded of the remaining 8 civilian wounded 5 were women.

Qadisiyyah Governorate

The Americans raided the home of another leading Sadrist in Diwaniyah today. Unfortunately for them as this report makes clear the Sadrists have been expecting them to try it and took precautions accordingly. There is currently a power struggle going on in Diwaniyah between SIIC and the Sadrist bloc - SIIC are worried they could be swept out of power in the forthcoming provincial elections.

Salah ad Din Governorate

Two people have been killed in two separate incidents. In al-Rakkah gunmen ambushed a car carrying Dalouiya hospital director Raffieh Ulwahn and 3 co-workers, he was killed his coworkers wounded. In Southern part of Sammara at al-Hattimiyah on the Baghdad-Mosul road gunmen dressed in green zone government uniforms ambushed green zone government Judge Hamdi Habib al-Juburi as he travelled the Baghdad-Mosul road from Diyalah to his home and killed him.

BAGHDAD, 17 May 2007 (IRIN) - Hundreds of Palestinian refugees stranded at al-Waleed makeshift camp in no-man’s land between the desert borders of Iraq and Syria are living in precarious conditions and people could die if they do not get medical treatment, the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) said on 15 May.

According to the UNHCR, an estimated 1,400 Palestinians are living in desperate conditions in refugee camps along the Iraq-Syria border

“We are particularly worried about the lack of medical facilities - many of the camp’s 942 residents need urgent medical attention, including a mother of seven who suffers from leukemia and a teenage diabetic boy,” UNHCR spokesperson, Jennifer Pagonis, said in a statement on Tuesday.

“The tented camp is overcrowded and many people are suffering from respiratory and other ailments that need proper medical treatment. But the nearest hospital in Iraq is located four hours away by car and the road runs through dangerous territory,” the statement said.

At least three people, including a six-month-old baby, have died from treatable illnesses since the camp opened last December, it added.
