There is a report in today’s Azzaman in English let me quote some of it:
Iraq says the contracts it has signed with oil majors will help it increase output 6 million barrels a day in a few years.
Iraq’s ultimate target is to become one of the world’s top oil producers and the platforms in the Gulf as well as the new pipeline network in southern Iraq is geared towards meeting that goal.

I read it just after coming from one of our orphanages and just before starting my early-morning ward rounds. I went about my duties knowing as I did so that most of the children I was treating will die within a few years as a result of the cancers and deformities they suffer from as a result of the depleted uranium and other substances the Americans used against civilian targets. I was filled with bitterness. A hundred times the income that my country will gain from this oil will not even begin to compensate those children, their parents, and the children like them for generations yet unborn, who will be born horrilbly deformed and will die live and die in agony with cancers because of what the Americans did here – knowing as they did so what the effects on children would be. I say it again:
A hundred times the income that my country will gain from this oil will not even begin to compensate those children or their parents for what the Americans knowingly did to them.
