Kirkuk, Oct 28, (VOI) – A group of armed men kidnapped a journalist working for the Turcoman magazine al-Ikhaa (Fraternity) in central Kirkuk, a media source said on Sunday.
"Gunmen attacked the vehicle of Muhammad Sari Kahya, the assistant editor of the Turcoman al-Ikhaa magazine, and transferred him to an unknown location," the source, who asked to remain unnamed, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI).
Al-Ikhaa is an independent weekly magazine focusing on the ethnic Turcoman community in Iraq as well as their literature and arts.
The Iraqi Turcomans (also spelled Turkomen, Turcoman, and Turkman) are a distinct Turkic ethnic group living in Iraq, notably in the cities of Arbil, Tal Afar, Kirkuk, and Mosul. Like the Assyrians, they claim to be the third largest ethnic group in the country (following the Arabs and the Kurds).
However, estimates of their numbers vary drastically, from 222,000 to 2,500,000.
The Turkmen of Iraq are not to be confused with the Turkmen of Central Asia who reside primarily in Turkmenistan and Afghanistan, and Iran.
قال مصدر اعلامي في مدينة كركوك، الاحد، إن مجموعة مسلحة اختطفت سكرتير تحرير مجلة الاخاء التركمانية وسط المدينة. وأضاف المصدر، الذي طلب عدم ذكر اسمه، للوكالة المستقلة للأنباء (أصوات العراق) "هاجمت مجموعة مسلحة مساء السبت سيارة قاسم محمد صاري كهية سكرتير تحرير مجلة الاخاء التركمانية وسط مدينة كركوك."
وأوضح المصدر أن المسلحين اقتادوا كهية إلى جهة مجهولة.
ولم يذكر المصدر مزيدا من التفاصيل.
