SIRNAK, Turkey, Oct 27 (Reuters) - Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan threatened on Saturday to order an incursion into northern Iraq against Kurdish guerrillas after the failure of talks with Iraq aimed at averting a cross-border raid.

سيرناك (تركيا) (رويترز) - هدد رئيس الوزراء التركي رجب طيب اردوغان يوم السبت باصدار أوامر للقيام بتوغل في شمال العراق ضد المتمردين الاكراد بعد فشل محادثات دبلوماسية مع العراق لتجنب عملية كبيرة عبر الحدود.

وقال اردوغان أمام حشد يلوح بالاعلام في ازميت "عندما تأتي اللحظة الضرورية لشن عملية فسنتخذ تلك الخطوة."

PM says Iraq supports Christians, defends their rights : Aswat Aliraq

Baghdad, Oct 27, (VOI) – The Iraqi government supports Christians and defends their right to stay home, Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki said during his reception of Patriarch Emanuel Deli, the head of the Chaldean community in Iraq.
"The government is ready to provide all means of assistance to help displaced Christians return to their homes and ensure a decent life for all Iraqis," the prime minister indicated.
Congratulating the patriarch on the title of cardinal bestowed upon him by the Roman Catholic Church, al-Maliki said, "This title is an honor for all Iraqis and a victory for Iraq in the light of its war against terrorism, extremism and sectarianism. The government will spare no effort to help you achieve your mission," al-Maliki added.
Meanwhile, the patriarch praised the Iraqi government’s efforts in restoring security and imposing the rule of law, and said that he will place his post at the service of all Iraqis.
There were an estimated 1.5 million Christians in Iraq before the collapse of the former Iraqi regime in 2003, but according to unofficial statistics, the number has fallen to 750,000 because of the deteriorating security situation in the war-torn country.

صوات العراق - المالكى: ندعم المسيحيين وندافع عن حقوقهم ومطالبهم:

قال رئيس الوزراء نوري المالكي خلال استقباله، السبت، غبطة البطريرك عمانؤيل الثالث دلي، رئيس الكنسية  الكلدانية في العراق والعالم، ان حكومته تدعم المسيحيين في العراق وتدافع عن حقوقهم وتعمل على تحقيق مطالبهم لتمكينهم من البقاء في الوطن وعدم اللجوء الى الهجرة.
وأضاف المالكى أن الحكومة مستعدة "لتقديم شتى انواع الدعم من أجل عودة المهاجرين من المسيحيين وتوفير ظروف الحياة الحرة الكريمة لجميع العراقيين."
وافاد بيان صدر عن مجلس الوزراء أن المالكي، وتلقت الوكالة المستقلة للأنباء (أصوات العراق) نسخة منه، السبت، أنه هنأ غبطة البطريرك دلي لحصوله على درجة كاردينال، وهو اعلى منصب يناله عراقي مسيحي من قبل حاضرة الفاتيكان في تاريخ العراق.
وقال المالكى إن "تكريمكم بهذا المنصب هو تكريم للعراقيين، ونصر للعراق وتعزيز لمكانته في العالم، خصوصا في ظل مواجهة الارهاب والتطرف والطائفية، وان الحكومة ستقدم كل ما تستطيع في سبيل انجاح مهمتكم."
من جهته، قال البطريرك عمانؤيل الثالث انه "يبارك جهود الحكومة العراقية في بسط الامن وفرض سلطة القانون" مشددا على انه "سيعمل على وضع هذا المنصب في خدمة جميع العراقيين".
يذكر ان عدد المسيحيين في العراق كان قبيل تغيير النظام السابق في ابريل 2003 يصل الى مليون ونصف المليون نسمة، لكنه تناقص في السنوات التي تلت ذلك بسبب الاوضاع الامنية المتردية فى العراق.
ويقدر عددهم اليوم وحسب احصاءات غير رسمية بحدود 750 الف نسمة .

8 people including 2 green zone government policemen were killed by a bomb in the Diyala Bridge district in Southern Baghdad. 
The bomb was in the  Diyala Bridge area of the capital and led to the killing of 8 and the wounding of 13, including two police officers.

It was placed in a garbage sack close to a busy restaurant and timed for a time when there would be many commuters arriving or departing from the South. The location is also a departure point for those who want to get to the centre of the capital. Earlier this week Jisr Diyala saw another such bombing recently targeting day labourers who had gathered to seek work very close to the scent of this bombing. 

Other developments:

• 16 rockets were fired at the American base in Diwaniyah.
• Green zone government security forces detained a leader of Sadr’s office in Diwaniyah (there is a campaign against the Mahdi Army in Samawah.)
• The green zone government claim calm has returned to Basrah with little loss of life and property — this "news" comes as a considerable surprise to Gorilla’s Guides team members living there.

Reuters reports:

• BAGHDAD - U.S. forces said they killed two Shi’ite militiamen, including one wearing a suicide vest, during a raid north of Baghdad to capture a rogue leader of cleric Moqtada al-Sadr’s Mehdi Army.
• SALAHUDDIN PROVINCE - One U.S. soldier was killed by small arms fire during operations in Salahuddin province north of Baghdad, on Thursday, the U.S. military said.
• SUWAYRA - Two bodies with gunshot wounds and signs of torture were recoverd from the Tigris River in Suwayra, 60 km (40 miles) south of Baghdad, police said.
• KUT - Gunmen killed a policeman in a drive by-shooting in central Kut, 170 km (100 miles) southeast of Baghdad, police said.
