The coffin is for his mother who was killed in a bomb attack. He’s waiting for relatives to come back with her body.
If you look at the coffin you can see that it’s been used before.
That’s because Muslims don’t typically use coffins for burial — although of course we may do so if we live in a country such as a European country where they are required by law.
When a Muslim is dies, the body is washed, wrapped in a clean cloth, and buried as quickly as possible. The coffins that you see in so many of the photographs on this site are used to transport the corpse to the burial site.
