U.S. forces kill a Sadrist leader near Najaf

By Haider al-Kaabi

Najaf, Dec 27, (VOI) – The U.S. forces killed in the early hours of Wednesday a leader of the Shiite Sadr movement after a raid to the killed Sadrist’s house near Najaf.

“The U.S. forces raided on Wednesday 4:00 am the house of Shaheed Allah foundation chief Sahib al-Aamiri in Hiyrah district, 18 km south of Najaf, and shot him dead,” an al-Aamiri’s family member told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI).

Sahib al-Aamiri is a prominent leader of the Shiite cleric Muqtada al-sadr’s movement.

Neither Shaheed Sadr office in Najaf nor the U.S. army made a comment on the incident.

VOI correspondent in the Shiite sacred city of Najaf reported the Iraqi security forces immediately went on alert in preparation to any emergency situation.

The incident came only one week after the security responsibility in Najaf province, 160 km southwest of Baghdad, was transferred to the Iraqi army from the Multi-National forces.

This is deliberately provocative as was the arrest of the Iranian diplomats.
I think we can expect more of this outrageous behaviour until the US gets what it wants - retaliation which they can use to justify a genocidal attack a la IDF

The Sadrist killing may also be a face saving exercise fot he US Army in response to this situation-
“The “Sadr City” problem: We are afraid to go into Sadr City, and the people of Iraq know it. MAS and JAM have been claiming since early 2006 that CF were planning on going into Sadr City, despite the fact that we had no intent or desire to do so. This was a very smart move on MAS’s part. He made CF look weak, timid and scared. The people of Sadr City believe that we will not go into the city for fear of high casualties, therefore they live with JAM as a reality of life. The problem is that we really shouldn’t go into Sadr City because no matter how many forces we throw at it, we will never truly be able to “separate the fish from the water.” JAM will initially fight back (or not), and they will then fade away and disappear into the city until we leave (which is inevitable). Just like in 2004, JAM will take casualties, many innocent Iraqis will be turned into anti-occupation insurgents, and we will leave. As a result, is it a Catch 22. If we go in, we will create more insurgents than we destroy, if we don’t go in, our credibility as an effective force is at risk.”

Either way it is cynical to the point of evil. But there’s no surprise there.
