ID paper issued 1993 for Abeer Qasim Hamza al-Janabi showing she was 14 at the time she was raped and murdered by American soldiersThe document you’re looking at is an identification card issued by the Iraqi government in 1993. It shows that Abeer Qasim Hamza al-Janabi was born on August 19th, 1991. Five U.S. soldiers have now been charged in a rape and multiple murder case. A sixth has been charged with dereliction of duty for not reporting the crime. Confirming what Mark wrote in his original posting that she was 14 and therefore a minor and not 20 years old at the time she was raped and murdered as the American authorities originally tried to claim

    Declan,

I’m still too angry about this to say something ’sensible’.

    But here goes.

She wasn’t raped. The poor child was GANG raped.

19th August is also Bill Clinton’s birthday.

That’s the day before my own. Which I share with the light of my life, my own only granddaughter. The most precious and special birthday present that anyone could ever have received. What a gift. She’ll be 11 years old next month - just three years younger than 14.

See what I mean about anger? And about being able to think or talk coherently on this right now?

Good God Almighty. Even the stones cry out.

    It is very disgusting Richard.

Richard thanks for pointing out the gang rape - which is exactly what happened there’s a lot of fluff going on here who knows what sentences will be handed down.

I am ashamed to wear the same uniform as these rapists. I will never return to Iraq as a soldier. This was the last straw.

Joseph Cannon raises some interesting questions about this disgraceful episode here -

Amongst them is (paraphrased), “Why were these guys dressed in black”?
    It just gets darker.

I saw that story too Griffon. But I’m spitting nails this a.m., over a comment in the AP release that the ‘age of consent is 15 or younger with parental consent’ as if this makes any difference whatsoever!

A.P. Have a lot and I mean a LOT to answer for especially Robert Reid. So does that effing little neocon scumbag ****licker Kirk Semple. Anything you read with his byline hold your nose first. Bloody little parasite masquerading as a journalist.
When you read his stuff Jaysus!!!! - I swear the only explanation for it is that his idea of how to reach orgasm is to lick in between between Rumsfeld’s toes.

    So much for the BBC.

Three days after you show us all the child’s birth certicate — the ‘brillant’ BBC manages to get round to doing the same.

    And they call it “news”.

The gang raped CHILD is still being referred to as a woman by the US news and the BBC - what is wrong with these people

  10. omar July 11, 2006 at 10:58 pm

I’m amazed they’re even calling her a “woman” Grania. I’d expect them to be like the Americans and call her a “female” as though she were some sort of animal.

Good point Omar - ooh the Elena Babbett case springs to mind - although I might have the first name wrong!…. if only - now there’s justice!
