“We’re going to be on the ground in Iraq as soldiers and citizens for years. We’re going to be running a colony almost,”

Paul Bremer to Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce Meeting, February 23 2003

“The Iraqi people are now free. And they do not have to worry about the secret police coming after them in the middle of the night, and they don’t have to worry about their husbands and brothers being taken off and shot, or their wives being taken to rape rooms. Those days are over.”

-Paul Bremer, Administrator, [Iraq] Coalition Provisional Authority, Sept. 2, 2003

Ahmed and Mohammed Qassim Hamza Ahmed is the boy on the left he's aged 9 Mohammed is aged 11These two boys are Ahmed Qassim Hamza and Mohammed Qassim Hamza. Ahmed is the boy on the left he’s aged 9. His brother Mohammed is 11.

They’re what’s left of the the family of the 14 year old girl raped and murdered in Mahmoudiya by a group of 5 US soldiers one of whom, Steven D. Green has now been charged with homicide and aggravated sexual assault. [A copy of the complaint against Green can be found here. - mfi]

  1. Their father Qasim Hamza Raheem’s head was “smashed” by bullets;
  2. Their mother Fakhriyah Taha Muhsin died of gunshot wounds to her head.
  3. Their seven year old younger sister Hadeel Qasim Hamza was shot dead.
  4. Their fourteen year old sister Abeer Qasim Hamza first raped then shot and her body burnt.

Standard procedure in a colonial war of subjugation don’t say you weren’t warned:

Beyond surprised that this complaint was not filed under seal. I’m sorry I can’t see the word ‘colony’ without wanting to say something quite rude that will have me banned.

  2. grania July 6, 2006 at 8:59 pm

It’s the overwhelming arrogance that gets me - I doubt if Bremer is capable of running a brothel - let alone the Green Zone. Though are actions vis a vis the civilian population are typical of colonial masters.

  3. Declan July 6, 2006 at 9:37 pm

No argument from me - and of course mr “terrorism expert” Bremer runs a “security consultancy” and that was before the dishonest little ponce “gave service” to America in the State Department and then in Iraq. I’ll bet you’re surprised to learn that.

“Service” alright the same “service” that everyone of that pack of thieves who run around with Cheney give to America and everyone else. “Service” in the agricultural meaning if the word.

  4. grania July 6, 2006 at 10:58 pm

Yeah I love it and pray tell who would hire Bremer as a consultant - I wouldn’t trust him with my washing!

We’ll do little digging on that one for you Grania.

Great posting BTW - and G’night all!

  7. erdla July 7, 2006 at 12:39 am

I think this one and the next that Declan posted are pretty good. But I am very disappointed Grania I was looking forward to seeing the air turn green white and orange as I read your reaction to the word “colony” aloud.

Oh well, maybe next time :-)

And before anyone asks - yes Hummel got off. Yes she got off on what was in fact a technicality. No I’m not happy about that. She did irreparable damage Danish troops are in greater danger because of her. But that is the price sometimes you have to pay.

“Better a 100 guilty go free than one innocent be convicted.” To use the English legal proverb.

    erdla,

Argh! Orange? On the Irish Republic’s tricolour? Argh!

    It’s green, white and GOLD.

(Watch out for Grania AND Mark, now.)

Sorry Erdla I have been not been myself lately and just am just not up to much at all these days. I will try and do better I promise!

That looks quite orange to me Richard :-)

    Grania,

I am puzzled by your reference to “under seal” is that the same thing as a “sealed indictment”

What I am thinking of is where a prosecutor deposits a charge but the the charge is kept under seal by a judge until the defendant is arrested.

My understanding is that they are only used until the defendant is arrested or the court is satisfied that the defendant will not abscond and then they must be made public.

My belief was that they are quite rare.

  13. grania July 7, 2006 at 7:38 pm

Hello Omar - in California ‘under seal’ means that all documents are filed with the court in a sealed envelope so only the Judge and the research attorney and the Judge’s clerk read it and have access to it. Once a pleading is filed in a California Court it becomes public record so anybody has access to it. In the old days you would need to know the file number before you could get your hands on a document but now with Lexis Nexis and similar search engines all you have is either to plaintiff or defendant’s name and bingo! By filing under seal you instantly limit access. I am both stunned and delighted that this complaint is on the web. However, I have to say the facts are not hitting the airwaves and causing alarm as I had expected. I think this North Korea test missile party has hogged the limelight or has been manipulated as such. I hope I have effectively explained ‘under seal’. Take care Omar!

  14. omar July 7, 2006 at 7:52 pm

Very clear, my thanks. I agree that there is little coverage and that much of this is due to manipulation. But I do not believe that Americans care about what is done by their soldiers in other peoples countries especially if those people are not “white” so perhaps not very much manipulation is needed.

I think Americans will only begin to care when there are many dead American soldiers and perhaps more importantly when they cannot cheaply squander stolen oil. When their pockets are empty then perhaps Americans will begin to ask questions.

  15. Declan July 7, 2006 at 8:04 pm

I didn’t know you could do that. That’ll come in dead handy.

There’s a report out that Green was a member of that fundamentalist outfit “The Church of Christ”

  16. omar July 7, 2006 at 8:05 pm

You never asked :-) However in truth this was by way of an experiment

It occurred to me that the database is set to handle all the standard MIME types so I decided to conduct a small experiment.

I am pleased that my hypotheses was correct.

  17. grania July 7, 2006 at 8:06 pm

yeah Omar nothing is going to hit home for the US until we get a taste of our own medicine in our own backyard, I’ve stated this before on Richard’s post or maybe here. I fear that this story is getting buried - weren’t the marines who were captured and allegedly tortured and killed from the same unit? I doubt that Green will get the death penalty - his attorney will deal down. Even with the facts that we now have it appears that our units are out of control - this case is going to cause severe embarrassment. It will be easy to pin it all on Green but the whole team is guilty - how can they live with themselves?

  18. omar July 7, 2006 at 8:11 pm

They are linked to the cult called “Christian Identity” are they not?

  19. omar July 7, 2006 at 8:17 pm

I also doubt he will get the death penalty richly though he deserves it.

  20. Declan July 7, 2006 at 8:17 pm

Omar I’m not sure of that IIRC there are so many weird fundamentalist cults in the States that keeping track of them would be a 48hour a day job.

There’s a lot of fundamentalists in the US army though it’s a consequence of the “Southernisation” of the army and it’s seriously bad news. MFI has been screaming about this for twenty years without effect. Remember Boykin?

  21. fatima July 7, 2006 at 8:24 pm

Of course he will not get the death penalty. He was only doing what he was sent to Iraq to do - terrorise the natives. There are times when I almost believe the takfiris when they say that this is a crusade and that the only differnce between this crusade and the last ones is that this time most of the crusaders are from America.

  22. grania July 7, 2006 at 8:36 pm

Wait - I got it - I just clicked on Huffpo.

  23. omar July 7, 2006 at 8:39 pm

Certainly my sister it is true that many of them are fundamentalists as with us there are many desperate and poorly educated young men who are filled with rage and hate. They are fools to think that putting them into uniform will delay the evil consequences of not addressing the problem.

Look at what is happening throughout the Muslim countries. Most of the peaceful reformers were murdered by the local regimes to keep the westerners happy and to stay in power. Small wonder that some of the young turn turn to hate and war.

    Grania here

  24. Declan July 7, 2006 at 8:40 pm

Grania, it’s part of the info for here

  25. Declan July 7, 2006 at 8:42 pm

LOL you’re too quick for me Omar. Grania stories often break first on the news photography sites in fact often they’re the only place a story (such as a bombing) will be reported.

I have found ever since our young Danish friend removed windows and installed Linux on my computer that I can work much quicker. Another benefit is that my computer no longer crashes every time I sneeze.

But Ya Allah! I am glad he left me a guide to the programs I now use - it is not a very friendly system.
