Kidnappings of Iraqi citizens by both criminal gangs and political groups remains a major problem in the country.”
A single word provides a far more accurate alternative:

It was good for my soul.
I hope you have other pictures of these men and that you will save them for me for when I come home.
It will be good to be reminded of a standard of braveness for which one should strive.
